Office Manager
Accountable for all actions within the front office of an organization, office managers may be responsible for overseeing the actions of many professionals.  They evaluate current processes and make the necessary changes in order to improve accuracy and efficiency.  Office managers are required to create budgets for estimated usage of supplies, and maintain these calculations throughout the year.

Executive Secretary/Executive Assistant
Executive secretaries, or executive assistants, must possess extensive skills and training.  They may be responsible for an entire business organization, or a specific area, but candidates must have the ability to self manage. Candidates handle everyday operations, as well as assist in hiring subordinate associates.  Executive professionals oversee the duties of multiple associates employed in secretarial positions within the company.

Clerical Supervisor
While clerical supervisors are responsible for the completion of a number of daily functions, they also assist others in accurately finalizing specific duties.  These supervisors are mainly concerned with maintaining current procedures, or making necessary changes to allow employees to complete duties more efficiently.

Word Processing Supervisor
Often employed in word processing centers or back offices, these supervisors ensure the accurate entry of data into specific systems.  Supervisors may direct the work of a few or multiple employees, depending on the size of the organization, but duties are similar throughout.  They create and maintain employee schedules, delegate tasks to professionals, and review work as needed. 

Secretary/Administrative Assistant
While a secretary job may differ slightly from an administrative assistant’s position, both associates are employed to provide individualized support to a number of associates, and are responsible for a variety of routine tasks.  Duties may involve operating a multi-line phone, data entry, scheduling, computer processing, or other tasks required.  Candidates must be able to self motivate, work independently, and have a pleasant demeanor

Clerk/File Clerk
Employed in a variety of industries, clerks are often utilized for general office work.  They are commonly used in government offices for maintaining the records and transcripts of legislative bodies or other organizations, so they must be highly organized.  They are often expected to prepare and send professional correspondences to numerous professionals.

Data Entry Clerk
Data entry clerks read data from written documents and pages and must then accurately and efficiently enter information into the correct systems.  Professionals may be part or full time associates, and work in a variety of industries.  Candidates are often required to code documents in order to indicate the associate who entered the information, and correspondences commonly receive reference numbers that serve the same purpose. 

Typist/Word Processor
Typists are employed for large organizations that send numerous mailings, documents, and/or correspondences.  Word processors proof documents, create mailing labels, and stuff envelopes. Duties often vary by each organization, but all individuals must be detail oriented and accurate. 

Transcribing Machine Operator
Responsible for dictation in shorthand of correspondences, reports, and other matter, transcribing machine operators are responsible for many duties.  They perform numerous clerical tasks as dictated throughout the day.  Fluency may be required for some positions in order for these Professionals to dictate information in foreign languages as well. 

Receptionist/Appointment Clerk/Switchboard
With the continual increases in technology, the general duties for receptionists increase as well.  These occupations require professionals to greet clients and customers, answer incoming phone calls, and direct individuals to appropriate destinations.  Associates must be very personable, have excellent communication skills, and have the ability to maintain composure while working under hectic conditions. 

Social Secretary
Accountable for a multitude of social communication tasks, duties of a social secretary include all forms of oral and written communication.  Professionals schedule appointments, draft correspondences, and organize details of a client’s personal or professional life.  A social secretary position carries many of the same responsibilities as personal assistant occupations.
